Big Black

By the time we reached the Big Black River bridge we were almost out of daylight.  There isn't too much to see here so we didn't need much light anyway.
 
This is the Union view approaching the bridge.

Off to the side of the marker is this giant tree.  By size alone I would imagine that it was here in 1863 but I could be wrong.

And then here we are on the bridge.  This ended the day's fighting and sealed Vicksburg's fate.  Pemberton was now stuck in Vicksburg.  Though from other readings I doubt he ever would have done things differently, it seems like he was always going to hold Vicksburg.  Perhaps if this part of the manuever campaign had ended differently he might have done things differently.
