84th Indiana



INDIANA'S TRIBUTE
TO HER
EIGHTY FOURTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
COLONEL NELSON TRUSLER, COMMANDING
FIRST BRIGADE (WHITAKER)
FIRST DIVISION (STEADMAN)
RESERVE CORPS (GRANGER)
September 18th this regiment was engaged on the extreme left of the army near Ringgold Bridge, and on the morning of the 19th was stationed on the hills near McAfee's Church.
Skirmished with the enemy until 1 p.m., when he attacked in large force and severe fighting was kept up until 5 p.m., when the enemy drew off. September 20th still in position near McAfee Church until 12 m. when the regiment marched to the sound of the firing at Snodgrass Hill, arriving at this point about 2:30 p.m. and engaged in the charge and desperate combat which took place here, assisting in driving back the enemy and saving the right.

  1. I'm new to this RSS crap, please contact me in anyway, shape or form that you can. Paper letters work very well with me. My Great, Great, GPa, was with the 84th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was present as Granger's Reserves came to re-enforce George "Rock" Thomas hold-outs at Snodgrass Hill to cover for "Rosie's" quick dispatch.
    They covered for the retreat of Federal forces when the sun set.
    It could have been worse for the Federals. It is certainly history now, however, I would like to hear from you, at your convenience.
